SWD CHIMNEY SWEEP
& KILN DRIED LOGS
South West Devon Chimney Sweep & Kiln Dried Logs based in Bovey Tracey offers a fairly priced chimney sweeping service, along with high-quality supplies of hardwood kiln-dried logs.
We recommend that you have your chimney swept annually, or twice a year for thatched houses in order to maintain a safe and clean chimney, which will enable your fire to burn more efficiently. Once your chimney is swept we will issue you with an official ICS certificate which is required to keep your house insurance Valid (which will remain valid for one year).
We pride ourselves on our efficient and effective technique which leaves your home just as clean as you left it. Our services are provided on wood/multifuel burners, open fires, and solid fuel cookers, on both residential and commercial properties.
All our kiln dried logs are locally sourced from two small log merchants based in Bovey Tracey and Ashburton. They are then kilned in-house by us in Bovey Tracey, so they are ready to burn.
Why kiln dried?
Kiln dried wood is firewood that has been force dried in kilns rather than dried naturally or more commonly known as ‘seasoning’ over a period of time, in order to get the logs to below 20% moisture content. They provide you with the ultimate burn quality and maximum heat output thus requiring you to burn less and so are great value for money. Burning kiln dried logs will also ensure your stove glass is kept cleaner and will prevent an excessive build-up of soot or tar in your chimney or flue, reducing the chance of a chimney fire and enabling your fire to burn to its maximum efficiency
Why locally sourced?
Burning locally sourced wood enables you to save on the increased CO2 emissions associated with importing wood. It also enables you to support British forestry and the relevant jobs and local economy. These British forests and woodlands are also controlled by the Forestry Commission in that you need a felling licence by law to cut down trees. This avoids illegal logging and clear felling. Whereas Eastern European countries are less well-regulated, better managed woodland means improved environment for flora and fauna. Most importantly we MUST utilise our beautiful woodlands and the fuel they produce. Proper management and utilisation and a sustainable UK forestry industry will lead to more woodland creation.
